I just bought a second monitor for my computer. My GPU is an R9 280x video card with the following ports: VGA Output: Using DVI to VGA adapter; DVI Output: DL DVI-I; HDMI Output: HDMI (video/audio); DisplayPort Output: 2x mini DisplayPort.

My first monitor (older) has perfect resolution. It is connected through the VGA Output. The second monitor (newer), which I connected with an HDMI cable, has bad settings, which I cannot seem to fix. The image does not stretch to the entirety of the screen (stays at about half an inch from all borders) and has lesser colour quality.

I downloaded the drivers for the new screen, but nothing seems to work. I read that the videocard doesn't know what it is sending the image to when it is plugged only through an HDMI. Should I plug the VGA cable directly to the computer (there is not a second VGA port on the GPU? The guy at the store cautioned against plugging the VGA cable directly to the computer .

Thanks.

Fixed by adjusting the resolution and playing with the video card settings. Screen will not auto direct the correct settings when only an HDMI cable is being used.
