Samsung EVO 840 vs Intel Performance?

Solution
Overall and price the EVO but if you want fast reading speeds and superior quality go Intel (EVO is still good though!) I'd go with the EVO in my opinion

I have two Samsung 840 Pro 256GB drives in service each in one of two desktop machines (Inservice dates are Dec 19, 2013 and Feb 26, 2014. And one Intel 520 Series 120GB drive in service in this laptop I'm using (inservice since about summer of 2013 and it was my first SSD). The desktop ones are for the OS and APPS (4TB HD units take care of data) but the laptop SSD (the Intel one) needs to store OS/APPS/DATA and it has not fumbled once. I would give you metrics BUT all three machines only have SATA300 and all SSD's can fully saturate that link. Personally, I would go with the EVO (or an even newer model) due to the encryption options available to you. I choose brands that make their own chips when it relates to this. Check out the metrics provided on each vendor's site and this site. They are really accurate and the reason I chose the "Pro" model was because I believe it could do twice as many random writes as the "non-Pro" version albeit sacrificing the latest and greatest encryption scheme available via Samsung Magician SSD mgmt program. Any more questions, feel free to ask.

Any Intel 730 series or above will serve you great. Same as a Samsung 840 EVO; however, if you have the money I would go for the 850 Pro. 3D NAND should help with endurance and you get great performance. My 850 Pro benches around 562 read and 533 write.

Honestly, with Intel and Samsung it could come down to looks or brand loyalty. Both drives are comparable quality wise and will serve you well.
