WiFi Range Extender making connection worse?

I'm gonna give a little back story before I get into the details here. I play a lot of video games. I have a PS4 in my room, and its connected to my router wirelessly. My router is downstairs from my room, so it isn't exactly good placement, but it usually works just fine, though my PS4 would get anywhere from 60-90 signal strength (Usually around 85 or below). So I play a lot of online games and I would occasionally experience bad lag, but not too often. The other day though, my PS4 was getting horrible connection, and I basically couldn't do anything without being kicked off the internet. So yesterday I bought a Linksys N300 WiFi Range Extender, put it next to my PS4 and connected them with a LAN cable. Now, it appears my connection either has gotten worse, or hasn't improved at all. In shooters, I am noticing that my kills, hits, etc, are registering very delayed. Could it be the extender is making it worse? It should be noted that the shooter I'm playing is Destiny, so maybe its a problem with the games servers or something...? Any help would be really appreciated.

A 'range extender', right next to the original device (the OS4) will get exactly the same crappy signal as the PS4 did/does.

Ideally, you place that range extender device midway between the router and your end device, the PS4.

Hmmm... I knew that, but the thing is, there really isn't a "midway point." If it helps at all, while the extender is next to my PS4, if I switch to WiFi I get a solid 100% signal strength. So could that still be the issue?

From the sounds of it you dont have a repater, but a wireless bridge:

Repeater = WiFi in, Wifi Out
Wireles Bridge = WiFi in, Wired Out
Access Point = Wired In, WiFi Out

You have to have a really good wireless bridge for it to be better then your internal wifi card.

You would be better off buying a powerline network adapter (a 500 or 600mbps one) and use that over wireless. The very nature of a wireless signal provides more latency (delay) over any type of wire connection.

Internet performance (best to worst):
1) wired ethernet
2) powerline adapter
3) wifi adapter (internal card or wireless bridge)
4) usb wifi adapter
5) wifi repeater
