Hello, everyone. My computer is powered through a 650 VA APC UPS. One fine afternoon when I tried to power up my computer from a cold state and during a powercut, I heard a loud bang from inside the UPS, as soon as I switched it on. Then it tripped.
I unplugged my computer and when the power came back on, I plugged the computer directly to the wall outlet. Guess what? The circuit breaker of the house tripped. I tried unplugging the PSU from the mainboard and turning it on, but everytime it tripped the circuit breakers. So the PSU was short circuited and hence the UPS tripped. But why the bang?
I opened the cover of the UPS and saw no blown or bulged capacitor, no burn mark, and nothing unusual met the eyes. When I powered the UPS back on, it seemed to function normally with working backup under load. Voltages okay (165 V unloaded, 230 V loaded.) Seems every aspect is functioning normally.
Now the question is, since there was the bang from the UPS, could it be that something important is fried? Do I need to replace the UPS? I do not want to ruin my new PSU.
Please advise.
