Is display port a requirement?

Checkout this monitor:
http://www.newegg.com/global/ie/Product/Product.aspx?It...
slash
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G5AH2YG/

5ms response time, 1080p, 27", IPS, 60hz, plus built in speakers. I own the 23" version and can vouch for it.

There is also this monitor:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HY7PAUC/

144hz, 1ms response time, built in speakers, display port, high contrast ratio, etc. and is around the same cost.

Yes, I saw Linus (the tech YouTuber) that display port 1.2 is better than the other options like HDMI etcetera. Thank you for answering. I'm gonna sleep.

No problem. Also display port is just capable of transferring more data, and is primarily used for 2k - 4k monitors because there is typically a bottleneck with HDMI. If you were to choose a 60hz IPS monitor that is 1080p, there would be almost certainly no difference between HDMI, and displayport.

If you want 1080p at 144+hz, then the monitor with that spec will have a displayport ready, as-if I am not mistaken there would be a bottleneck on the refresh-rate otherwise.
