I recently purchased a Dell Precision 390 on E-bay loaded with Windows 7 Pro, it had a 1.8ghz dual core and I wanted more speed. When I put a Q6600 the fan speed goes into orbit. I tried another not so hot Pen 3.4 and fan is just as fast, put the 1.8 back in it slows to normal. I think what I need is Windows 7 64 bios update, I'm running XP/Vista 64 2.6 now.

Any ideas on how to update bios on this thing or should I just put XP Pro back on and forget it?

Well to my knowledge, a bios update doesn't have anything to do with the operating system. If you scroll through all of the XP and the Vista bios updates, they are all 2.6.0. The bios is not a windows driver, it is separate from the OS. My laptop is only vista supported by ASUS, but I was able to use the BIOS version under Vista even though it had windows 7 on it.
And that is a very old machine, my parents have one of those... I found spiders living in it last time I cleaned it out for them :)

When at the Dell website they don't show support for Windows 7 on the Precision 390 (only XP), when running the Diagnosis on the 390 the summary
that follows that Dell does not support Windows 7 on this machine. I feel sure someone out there is running a 390 on Windows 7 Pro with a processor
faster than 1.8ghz dual core. I've tried the Vista 64 bios with the same result.

Thanks for your quick response though.
