I installed a new processor earlier, and I noticed that the fan was a little louder and hotter than expected. I found online that if you update the Motherboard's BIOS, it'll reduce the noise and heat created. I had done so on mine (Asus M5A97 LE R2.0) using the EZ Flash feature. I downloaded the latest version on the right platform (Windows 7, x64). It all worked fine for a while after. I was livestreaming when my PC froze, leading me to restart it. Then it froze to a black screen just before the login page, and it persists.

However, it does boot and run on Safe Mode. So i'm really not sure what i've done. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hmmm......intresting. When you have an issue like this, you're better off to leave it alone and get help. Its proably overheating but why you can't boot windows normally........

OK, try this

There are two ways to doing this.

Method 1:
1. Unplug the power cable from your PC
2. Open up your PC and remove the CMOS battery.
3. Put it back in, and restart the PC.

Or like this

Method 2:

Enter BIOS. Look for an option saying something like "Restore Defaults" or "Fail-Safe Defaults". Once you've done this, save your changes and restart your PC. You should be able to boot windows normally, but if you can't I would put the old processor back in and see if it works with the old one. If it does, try agian with the new one. It could be that a cable is touching the wire, causing it to be hotter and louder. Anoher thing is is that it could be a faulty CPU. I'd recommend that you try what I've suggested, and if you still can't boot windows normally, contact the CPU manufacturer or return the CPU.

Hope this helps,

A new problem has arisen. The black screen now no longer occurs; however, it freezes to a blue screen shortly after logging in (Not BSOD). Tried taking and replacing the CMOS battery, nothing. I can't put in the old processor at the moment as I have no more thermal paste, i'll have to go to the store later and pick some up.

-Again, works fine in Safe Mode

It's an AMD FX 8350 w/ stock fan.

It got suggested to me to reinstall Windows. Would that be a viable method?

Are you sure this is a CPU problem? It could always be a badly-installed driver, which you can rollback on if its causing you problems (in safe mode). Or it could be some nasty malware. Before you do any more, download AV (anti virus) on Safe Mode with Networking and scan your PC. If anything is found, restart your PC and see if it works normally. It may be just a coincedence, but I'd do this first before we do anything else. Whevever I have a customer, I lsten to the description of the problem, note it down, and think of all the possible things that could be causing the probem, and I diagnose these before I do anything else.

Hope this helps,

I'm not sure at all anymore. I've tried all of the above and nothing. Even tried a clean reinstall of Windows as a last resort, nothing. It's either bad drivers, bad graphics card or a mixture of both. I've identified the problem to be a GSOD, but without the vertical lines. It happens when I do simple tasks, like opening Steam or Google Chrome. When drivers are uninstalled, it says "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" in Device Manager. I'm coming to the conclusion that it's a dying card. Can anyone confirm this? I can provide relevant information

Edit - This has gone slightly off topic. I'll make a new thread with the latest problem.

it could be the gpu since you dont have onboard video on this motherboard i suggest you to try another working gpu even a old one to see waht happens and if there is still no video could be a defective motherboard so either of them that are defective need to be rma .
