Which processor is better for a laptop: AMD C-50 vs. Intel Core i7 4710MQ?

My friend is selling me his old netbook laptop for $899 it come with AMD C-50, 4 gigs of RAM, and a 480 GB SSD with Windows 8.1 Pro loaded on and he said it is good for games and that it can compete with an i7 in gaming. It have 720P resolution. It is 11.6 inch.

I went to Best Buy and saw an Intel Core i7 4710MQ, 12 GB RAM, and a 1 TB HDD with 1080P display but it is much bulkier at 17 inches and it is selling for the same price for $899.

Which processor is better AMD C-50 or Intel Core i7 4710MQ? Can someone help me out please?

$899 for an 11" Netbook with a dual core 1.0ghz cpu is simply outrageous even with a 480GB ssd that he probably paid $250-400 for depending on what brand it is and how long ago he bought it. Just last year, I bought my wife a similar laptop except it had the slightly faster AMD C60 for $250 brand new. I then added a $120 240GB ssd to it and upgraded the RAM to 4GB for another $20. That's still less than $400 for a small ultra portable web "common usage" machine that wasn't really good for anything else. It is NOT good for gaming. I wouldn't expect to get even $200-250 for it now and it's in great condition.

As far as comparing the two cpus, you're talking about a slow dual core cpu vs a very fast quad core cpu that also has...

If you are planning to play games you should look for the Graphics card. I can see you did not indicate the Graphics card in both laptops.
If you will use this laptop for 3D rendering, Autocad and other 3D applications you should opt for the i7.

Your friend is lying or doesn't have much knowledge. The AMD C-50 is no where near the i7; heck the AMD C-50 is so weak that it performs the same as my 11 year old Pentium 4. Do not buy the laptop from your friend, he is ripping you off badly; thank god you posted here before buying from your friend, otherwise he would have committed daylight robbery. Yes, the AMD C-50 is that weak.

The AMD C-50 is a terribly performing CPU. The i7-4710MQ you found is a solid processor, and performs on par with most of the latest desktop processors. The AMD C-50 definitely cannot compete with an i7, as mentioned, it is same as the ancient poor-performing Pentium 4.

I apologise that I am posting all the negatives towards your friend's laptop, but it truly does not perform similar to an i7. What's worse is that he/she is trying to sell it to you at an absurd amount of cash. If you want a new laptop don't buy your friend's laptop, instead buy the i7-4710MQ.

I would like to disagree with the comment above. If the AMD comes with discreet GPU (7970) it will out perform the i7 without discreet GPU in terms of gaming performance.

So to be fair let OP state the whole specs of both laptops and let`s decide from there.

I could never justify paying $900 for a used laptop. If I'm spending that kind of money, I want a warranty. Unless there is a top of the line GPU in it (and even then, I still wouldn't buy it), there's no way it is worth $900. Bottom line, don't buy your friends computer. That CPU is quite weak in overall performance. For that kind of money, you can find a much better CPU/GPU combo that will out perform your friends rig...In my opinion.

The AMD C-50 will never come close to outperforming the i7-4710MQ any day, it won't even outperform a 2006 Core 2 Duo. Please do further research before posting.

Do not buy the laptop your friend is offering. It is not worth it. The amd cpu is on par with an atom processor found in netbooks. These are not designed for gaming or any heavyweight programs which will cause your laptop to lag badly with the simplest task assuming you are running win 7 or onwards. I would get the i7 which is the best one of the best cpu's you can get for the money.

As far as comparing the two cpus, you're talking about a slow dual core cpu vs a very fast quad core cpu that also has hyperthreading. No context. The i7 is AT LEAST 10 times faster if not even more.
