Can I use my intel i5 3350p on a z68 chipset

Well I have an intel i5 3350p and I'm looking to upgrade to a better motherboard I'm looking at the asus maximus IV gene-z and I wanted to know if the would work well together and if I could overclock

Well your Cpu is a Ivy bridge and z68 is for sandy bridge. Both are LGA 1155 so the cpu should fit. But why not get a Z77? Prices are almost same.

Theres 2 3350p's. Which one have you got??

Core i5-3350P (3.1G,L3:6M,4C,69W,rev.E1) . This needs BIOS 3402. This is the 4th BIOS

or

Core i5-3350P (3.1G,L3:6M,4C,69W,rev.N0) this need 3503. This isn't listed. And 3603 is the latest BIOS update

Well because I'm in canada and to find a z77 rog motherboard is like water in the desert so when I found the asus maximus iv gene-z that had everything I wanted in a small form factor I knew I had to consider it. And I don't know wich one I have for the intel i5 3350p

Yes you can, you just need to update the bios first.

I set up a system for a friend using a Z68 motherboard and a i5 3470.

You should be able to overclock 4bins on that CPU on the multiplier.

If it wont boot with the ivybridge cpu, then youll need to boot it with a sandybridge cpu to upgrade the bios first.

Then on another computer download the latest bios from the manufacturer for that board and put it on a usb stick, then put it in the computer and the bios usually has a utility to upgrade from usb. Its easier than it sounds.
