Hello everyone!

I just setup a new HTPC for my home. I have attached to that HTPC a 5TB hard drive. I am storing all of my movies on this drive to be streamed throughout my home via Plex. I have an old Dlink DNS-320 Nas enclosure and although it's pretty slow, I would like to use it to backup all the movies from the 5TB drive.

Right now, I have two 3TB drives. I was thinking that I can combine these drives to 6TB inside the NAS and backup the 5TB drive to this. Is it a good idea to set it up this way or should I instead install another 5TB drive into the NAS and let the HTPC drive backup to that? I'm pretty new to this but my goal is to create a backup to the 5TB drive installed on the HTPC so that if it ever crashes, I won't lose all my movies. Thanks to anyone who can help!

If you have room in your HTPC - you can install them in there and use a program like SynchBack Free to backup (or synchronize) the data - this will be the fastest result. SynchBack also allows you to do only changed file backup - so only updated or new files are backed up - and if a file is accidentally deleted you can recover it.

The only drawback - if the PC is stolen, or destroyed in a fire - the backup would be lost with it (but hey - don't we install the NAS right next to the PC it is backing up.....LOLOLOLOL).
