OK so I love IN-desk hubs(dont judge me) http://www.amazon.com/Power-Tap-Grommet-Hidden-Center/dp/B009W2LB46/ref=pd_tcs_subst_e_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=1KTPSPH0TSKBH20Q8TB8 for reference. Sadly they dont make them anymore, at least usb3 versions of it. Is it possible to by an usb3 hub and take it apart and replace the usb in this one with the usb3 ports? Has anyone ever heard of this being done and is there a video out there? I want to try to find out more about it before i jump in and take these two apart.

yep. i did it at work. we have two conference rooms with RJ 45, power and USB ports in the desk. i love that stuff too! it's so freakin' james bondish.

i took out the wire panels, unscrewed the back, removed the USB controller (tiny circuit board) and USB ports, put in the new hub and it was good to go. had to use some crazy glue and duct tape but it worked!

EDIT: do NOT actually take apart a whole USB hub. what i did was mount a 7 port hub under each wire panel, bought some USB 3.0 extension cables (there: http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-A-Male-A-Female-Extension-Cable/dp/B00B3P15M8/ref=pd_bxgy_pc_img_y) took off the the plastic casing around the female end and mounted it to the panel.
