So I have been recently getting attacked over the internet because I host my minecraft server off of my computer at home, I don't have enough money to get a host. Can someone direct me to a way to stop DoS attacks? I know people use a VPN, but won't that disallow people to join my minecraft server? Someone please fill me in on what I can do. Thanks!

You can't really. If you host something in your house you must give out your IP address which allows bad people to attack you. It is like if someone has your phone number and calls you over and over, not much you can do.

You can use a VPN to hide your IP...or at least be able to change it often but this is again a form of hosting that costs money. Even hosted servers are subject to DoS. They can easily construct a attack that causes you to exceed your bandwidth allocations for the month.

It is so strange that you pretty much only hear about DoS on home users from people that play games.
