Hi,

Quick question, does anyone know or have an Asus Gene II Rampage SLI with HD6870.

Because from what i can see the card is so fat that it almost covers the bottom PCI-E slot meaning that i couldnt see a way of adding another HD6870, but i dont know if there is another solution to get round this. I mean the PCI-e slot is visible, but its only a few mm below the other card so i don't think it would fit? Anyone know a way round this? Or is the only answer to get a better singular graphics card.

NB: Just to save some people time... i know the 6870 is dated and there are other options for newer cards etc just wondering about this particular issue.

Thanks

yes two 6870 cards will fit on that board. They will stack very closely together and the top card will run hotter then the bottom card since it will have a harder time pulling air from the case. Normally the top card will run 5-10*c warmer then the lower card.

If you look back far enough Nvidia use to cut holes in the PCB boards under the fans so it could pass air from the lower card all they way to the top one even running 3 cards in sli.

Im guessing its because of using the XFX double dissipation HD6870 that its an issue of being so fat. Im pretty sure if i can even try and wedge another card into the second PCI-E slot then they will literally be flat on top of each other.
Was half hoping there was some way to have a cable or jumper that would allow me to install the card further down. And temperature isnt an issue at the mo with the case, running at about 45 degrees at max load

the XFX card is still a dual slot card so both cards will fit on the board. Yes they will be right next to each other with about a 1/8" gap between the cards.

The only cards ive ever had and issue with are the zotac 480 amp cards since they were 2.5-3 slot cards and could not me stacked right on top of each other.

Yeah apologies, i mean i know a fair amount about sli, but have never needed to actually do it beforehand as my rig runs most things on max settings though the next gen games certainly wont (and this question is very specific). Wasnt sure if there was/ is an issue with spacing of the mobo slots. I may take a pic tonight, but thanks for your help anyway.
