Hey everyone! This is my first Toms Hardware post!

I have an h100i and i just recently got an i5 4690k yesterday. Im on to the overclocking stage now and i have achieved 4.5ghz on 1.2v. For whatever reason when i run prime the temps jump to 80+C and i have Noctua nf-p12s in push pull on max rpms on the radiator and Im sure the pump is on etc. My idles are also acceptable the CPU idles at about 33c. Im really dissapointed with the h100i if this is all it brings to the table...

Does anyone know whats up with this device and how i can fix this?

EDIT: Temps in prime are 80+ Temps in OCCT Hover around 75!

Reseat the cpu block. Use a blob of thermal paste the size of an uncooked grain or rice in the centre of the cpu, ensure that you tighten the screws in a cross pattern make sure you plugged the pump in

It is working if he gets 80C at load and then idles back down to 30's C, assuming this is the case (OP, please confirm).

You are seeing the direct result of how how Intel chips can get when overclocked.

There's nothing to fix, that seems about right for the cooling capacity of the h100. Also, and correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't 4th gen i7s really bad overclockers due to crap thermal paste inside the cpu?

I thought that devils canyon thermal material was supposedly fixing that issue

Im putting in a custom loop in a few months, how many degrees will that shave off of these temps potentially?

It might not help that much. haswell chips run hot because the transfer between the die and the heatspreader is the limiting factor

Depends, really. Are you completely certain that your OC settings are optimized that you are using the lowest voltage and settings required in order to maintain stability without adding additional heat? That will be the greatest determination of how well any cooler performs with an overclocked processor.
