Hello people of toms hardware.

Is there a big difference between the 7850K and the 7700K. besides the core clock?
There is a $30 difference between the two, so is the price gap indicative of the performance?

On top of the 300mhz clock gap, the 7850k has 512 gpu shaders, while the 7700k has 384 gpu shaders. So the igpu on the 7700k is a bit weaker than that on the 7850k.

What are your plans for the system? As them APUs are overpriced- you can get better performance by getting one of the Athlon X4s and a low-mid range graphics card.

APUs arent overpriced especally if you buy a R9 / R7 Card to crossfire with them.

They are, the performance when crossfired with a R7 card (you cant crossfire with a R9) still isnt good. You can get a better system by just spending more on GPU.

You will get better GPU performance on a AMD APU even vs Intel twice its price.

Not if you use a low-mid range graphics card.

I seems to have the same problem.

I agree with this, an APU is fine is you don't want/need/can't fit a discrete graphics card but still need decent graphical performance. The downside is that because the CPU and GPU resources are shared, overall performance is a compromise. This will become apparent in tasks which are processor or graphics-intensive.

The other consideration is that APUs use the FM2 socket, so the FX series of processors aren't supported. If you decide to upgrade to one of those, you'll need a new motherboard.

Depending on your usage, it is very much worth looking into the A8-7600.

At the moment it is the only APU I would consider, given the price and performance you can get out of it. Toms did an article extolling the virtues of said chip. Personally considering making a little box to go next to my TV using one.

Yup, not knocking them out of hand, just if you want to game, the 7850k is overpriced for the performance.
