Hello,
Its basically as the title says, I have been using my WD MyBook Essential for about 2 years now, I basically only use it to store movies on.
Today it suddenly got disconnected, might have been because I slighty touched the cable, might not. either way after that the HD was still shown in hardware monitor but I couldn't access it anymore.
It showed me that there was no driver available so I manually downloaded the SES driver and now it showed up properly, but I still couldn't access it, I went into disk management but I am not able to assign a drive letter, its simply not giving me the option everything is gray except for the create new volume option, heres a screen of the drive in disk management, sorry for the german language:
Heres a screen of the popup menu:
I tried my other usb ports, no difference, I connected it to my other computer (I'm currently on my laptop) and there a message popped up saying the SES driver was installed an is ready for use but the WD mybook driver failed to load and it was the same picture as on my laptop, I'm not able to acces the drive or change the drive letter.
So here's my question, is there anything I can do to fix my HD? The light is still blinking as usual when turned on and when going in/out of standby mode. If there is no way to fix it and its just gone, is there a way to recover the files and put them on a new HD, I would really rather not import 1.7 TB of bluerays again, that would take weeks.
On a side note, I am using Windows 7 64bit.
Any help would be appreciated, and sorry for any spelling errors its not my native language and I simply cannot get used to this darn laptop keyboard.
