My 780ti Overclocking - Am I Missing Something?

Or is it really this good?

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a Zotac OC 780ti (not the AMP version, although the cooler is identical afaik) when my BTO PC builder could not get any more stock cards - at the price of a stock card (not complaining).

Now I've heard that 780tis tend to run hot. My Firestorm overclocking app had the target temperature set at 90 degrees. Most of the reviews have the thing at about 83-85 degrees at load without an overclock.

So I decided - what the hell. I'll take it up to the AMP! levels of 1000ish MHz on the GPU and 1800 on the memory. The temperature barely budged.

I'm currently running at 1100 (boosting at 1300) on the GPU and 1900 MHz on the memory. I could probably push it a little further if I wanted, but a tad worried about doing this (obliterated my 7800 back in the day). Loving the card to bits, Crysis 3 is silky at 1440p with almost everything maxed except AA.

The thing at max load sits at a comfortable 70 degrees Celsius with fans at 60%.

Is this normal? Did I luck out and get a really sexy OC card for the price of a regular 780ti? Or is something off about these numbers and maybe the heat is not being reported correctly.

Solution
back when the 8800gtX was king, zotac started releasing very good reference cards, since then i havent heard of them releasing a bad gpu. so its not that you got a sweet sample (although it sounds like you did) its more likely your seeing zotac quality which is as good as anything msi, xfx bring to the table.(IMO)

Thanks! Never really heard of Zotac cards before so I was pleasantly surprised at my results.

Those temperatures/speeds don't sound fishy to you at all? That's almost a 25% overclock and not even pushing close to reference card load temperatures.

How the hell did you manage to get 1100 OC? I got 1080 OC on my ZOTAC 780 TI OC (exactly the same one you have) and I get a black screen when stress testing in Heaven with OC 1090 or 1100 (only 1080 is stable). I run it in SLI and 1080 seems to be the absolute maximum. Can you tell me your config and what rig do you have?

What drivers do you use?
What's the CPU and BIOS?
Perhaps you raised voltage?
Thanks in advance.

Nothing all that special actually.

I have an i7 4970k with a slight overlock on it (4.5) cooled by an h100i.
16 gigs of midrange corsair gaming ram.
An ASROCK extreme4 mobo.
Latest bios and drivers.

My case is a corsair 750d with some extra fans on it.

No extra voltage.

Again, I was very surprised at the juice I got out of this card. Maybe I just got an above average board?

Hah. Now that I did *not* know, so thank you! Are there any downsides to these speeds in that case? I am looking for this card to last me at least 3 years.

My motherboard is better, I've got Corsair Vengeance 16GB dual-channel 2400mhz RAM, I've got 7x corsair fans installed with turbo available. In this case, BIOS might be limiting me. Can you tell me exactly which version of BIOS you're using? You can see it in GPU-Z.

Your overclock percentage is higjer than average. The gpu it self is pretty much awesome and powerfull enough for 1440p gaming. Your current overclock is ideal but since you are gaming at higher than 1080p res overclocking the core wont help that much. I pe4spnaly found the card to perfom better with higher mem overclock than core. But 1900 is ok. Since it is Awesomenly performing kepp it like that and enjoy the beast

Can you tell us your score from GPU-Z ASIC %? (right click on the icon in the window and click on asic..)
