Hey guys,

I'm toying with the idea of building a Micro ATX system with the G3258. I'll have some fun with it and then probably sell it or give it to my girlfriend or my parents, or maybe keep it as a backup system.

At the moment I'm looking for a CPU cooler that'll allow me to decently overclock the CPU. It has to be cheap and it can't be higher than 135mm as it has to fit in a Fractal Design Core 1000. I'm looking at air coolers because of the noise, which I'd like to keep to a minimum.

Any suggestions?

Firstly, TX3 would be my first choice considering the build type.

Secondly, no, Crucial are normal profile and won't interface with L9i.

Why such costly (considering the build) MoBo? A MSI H81M E-33 will be good enough for 4.3Ghz as tested on this site:

Since you're opting for a quiet system, Noctua will be my choice, if budget isn't a constraint. The L9i or L12 are great options and very quiet, besides being powerful for some moderate-serious OCing.
Also, on Fractal site, the official supported height is 148mm. If that is the case, the Hyper TX3 deserves a worthy mention thanks to its value/price. Its decent enough for moderate OCes while coming at a cracker of a price point.

I'm going with socket 1150, not much choice since I'm going with the G3258 ;)

The Noctua L12 is too expensive, the pricepoint I'm looking at is €30-40 max, preferably less.

Oh that's just fantastic, the store and Hardware.info say 135mm, Fractal says 148mm. Sigh.
The Hyper TX3 was actually my first choice, the height is what put me off it, but now I don't know anymore.

I'm considering the L9i, but it's a flat square block, won't that cause problems with RAM clearance? I'm going with Crucial Ballistix Sport VLP.

Also, for the motherboard I'm considering the Asus H81M-Plus but I don't know which BIOS version it ships with. Any ideas on that front?

EDIT: The shop offers a BIOS-update service, but they charge €15! EDIT: Screw that, €10 more and I can get an ASRock Z97m Anniversary.

EDIT2: I'm considering cannibalizing my current system. I'm upgrading a lot of parts in a week or so, I might be able to fit my current Corsair H60, my RAM (16GB, overkill, but free!) and maybe one of my GTX660s, but I kind of need that one for a while.

Because mobo prices are way different over here.
There's almost no price difference in H81 boards, and the Z97M Anniversary is €25 more. If I have to pay the shop €15 anyway to get a proper BIOS version I might as well shell out €10 more to get a proper Z97 board. The only real trade-off is that the Z97M has a crappier audio chip.
Still, it's not set in stone, I might change my mind.

I'm still kinda weary about cooler clearance with this case, I'll probably contact the shop and see if they'd want to measure it for me, just to make sure. If the TX3 fits I'll probably go with that, if I don't cannibalize my H60.

As for the RAM clearance, awesome, thanks!

It'll probably be a few weeks before I get started, my main system upgrade has to happen first and that's going to drain most of my money. Probably October/November before I start this.

Hm I didn't realize that the PSU is mounted in the top of the Core 1000. For the PSU I'm looking at with the Seasonic S12II-430 which isn't modular (but it is amazingly cheap), and cable management is apparently not great in this case. Might have to look into that.

I didn't expect the Hyper 212 Evo to fit. If it's pushing onto the side panel as they say though I'd prefer to go with a smaller cooler. This does mean that the TX3 shouldn't be a problem.

Whether or not I'll simply use my H60 depends on how long it takes for my H220-X to come in. It could be days, it could be months. If I don't use the H60 I'll go with the TX3.

If anyone has any good suggestions for a similar case with better cable management, or a good PSU (~€45) that's modular I'd love to hear it!

That's very nice. The only reason I'm considering using my H60 over the TX3 is that my H60 is unsellable anyway, the radiator is attached with non-standard screws and tiewraps and I don't have the original box or receipt anymore either. It's good to hear something solid on the TX3's performance though, thanks!

I have seen many people sell those on eBay with little to know problems. Yes the original box helps but there are people willing to buy those. I guess it depends on how much you want.
