Hi there.

I am planing to get a PC in the next month or so (I currently don't own one) and I want to build one myself. With the upcoming releases of broadwell and the new gtx900 range from nvidia I was wondering if I could get a good framerate on games like skyrim, and black flag and a couple of newer games that I'm not quite sure of (just getting back into PC after about a year or so) with the current build.

Kingston 8GB Kit (2x4GB) HyperX Fury Black C10 1866MHz $109.00
XFX XTR Black Edition 750W 80PLUS Modular Power Supply $189.00
Thermaltake NiC C5 Multi-CPU Cooler $69.00
NZXT H440 Black/Red Mid Tower Case w/Side Panel Window $164.00
Gigabyte Z97X Gaming G1 WiFi Black Edition LGA1150 ATX Motherboard $459.00
XFX Radeon R7 250 Core Edition Low Profile 1GB GDDR5 DVI HDMI VGA. $124.00
Intel Core i3-4160 3.6GHz 3MB Retail Box $135.00

Total of 1,249AUD

Would this build last me until I upgrade to the new nvidia 900 gpu in a couple of moths (3-4 months later) and a broadwell in about 5 or 6 months time.

The games don't have to be in ultra but mid to high graphics and I would really appreciate it if you could give me advice to make it a better build all parts will be bought locally at ple.com.au or Austin.net.au I would like to keep mu red and black colour scheme.

I would like to maintain a great motherboard while having the wifi. If there is a better option for cheaper please let me know.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Getting an i3 to hold off till Broadwell isn't such a bad idea.

You should get a cheaper motherboard and GPU though. You can get good Z97 motherboards for $150, or $200 for some extra icing on top. $460 is crazy high.

For the GPU, you should look for a sub $100 card for temporary usage. Maybe make use of the integrated graphics, or get a AMD 6770 or a used AMD 7750 on ebay or something.

why are you getting such an expensive gpu if you are upgrading in 3 months, unless that is a typo???? $460?? i would just grab an r9 270 or somthing that is like 150. dont get something that expensive if you are just upgrading in 3 months. that is my opinion. but if you have the money to burn, then do what you wish. if that is a typo, i dont think it can max games, maybe run new ones on medium, but if you can stand that, it should be fine

Sorry to cause a confusion. That was all my fault not labelling the proper prices to the correct item. The $460 mobo is for future (a bonus it comes with wifi) should I get a cheaper mobo with a PCIe wifi card? The I 3 will be replaces as soon as i will be able to get my hands on broadwell.

Would this be better compared to above

Kingston 8GB Kit (2x4GB) HyperX Fury Black C10 1866MHz $109.00
XFX XTR Black Edition 750W 80PLUS Modular Power Supply $189.00
Thermaltake NiC C5 Multi-CPU Cooler $69.00
NZXT H440 Black/Red Mid Tower Case w/Side Panel Window $164.00
XFX Radeon R7 250 Core Edition Low Profile 1GB GDDR5 DVI HDMI VGA $124.00
Intel Core i3-4160 3.6GHz 3MB Retail Box $135.00
Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 7 LGA1150 ATX Motherboard $225.00
Asus PCE-AC68 802.11ac AC1900 Wireless PCIe Adapter $125.00
total $1,140.00

Get a smaller 500-600W PSU.
Spend less on a case and motherboard(around $60 for a case, and around 80$, H97 chipset for the motherboard be fine.

Also the wireless adapter is INSANELY expensive. 20$ for one is more than enough.

Any extra money should be spent on a better graphics card and MAYBE on an I5 CPU.

Better graphics card, really. The i3-4160 is already so far ahead of the R7 250, an i5 wouldn't help in game framerates until he upgrades anyway. An R7 260X would be a much more playable temporary chip than the R7 250, until he switches to the GTX 900 series. That's assuming he ends up with money left over and doesn't just immediately start saving it for the Broadwell i5 and GTX 900, of course.
