Hi guys. Recently just purchased a 4k samsung monitor for $500.00 aus and now I need the graphics power to go with it. What does 4k depend on the most. I can purchase 2 x Saphhire 7970 6b edition for a really good price. I know these are outdated but the cards are pretty much the same as current gen cards minus a few features. Is this recromended? Id be able to run dual to the screen ? Or will I have issues. If not do you think I will benefit by waiting for new nvidia 800 series which is due in a month or so?
(Sorry I've dragges this on for so long) Thank you!

You'll need a lot of raw processing horsepower on the GPU's you select. Keep in mind that you're going from approximately 2 million pixels per frame to 8 million pixels. that's a lot of extra work. the 7970's wouldn't be able to run 4k at max settings, but is that what you're looking to do? I don't have that model but Tom's hierarchy puts them in the same boat as a 280x. You may be able to run current games at lower then max/ultra settings with that configuration, but in that scenario, you'd potentially be better off with a lower resolution and higher settings. 4k is hard.

Not sure what you mean about dual to the screen. they'd be in a crossfire setup, so it'd still just be a single cable out of the first card to the monitor...

Wait until nvidia announces the new cards, the NDA is lifting soon. You may just be able to grab 2 gtx 970's for 600 bucks or so, who knows. Prices might fall on current cards at the very least.

If you can but a nice 4k monitor, I don't recommend the 7970. Spring for newer tech like the r9 290's or wait for nvidia
