How would I best move my windows 8.1 operating system from my M.2 SSD mounted on my motherboard to a new M.2 drive? I would like to install 256GB M.2 drive as my 128GB drive seems to have suffered some ESD damage.
My issue isn't so much the cloning of the the drive as much as being able to connect two m.2 drives at the same time to move them over a cable. Maybe someone makes an external adapter similar to internal sadness drive housings with SATA to USB connections? But has anyone ever do everything or a tempted this with a m.2 drive?

Well you could try "Laplink's PCmover" it can "move" OS from hard disk to hard disk. and it has windows 8 and 8.1 support try here http://www.laplink.com/index.php/individuals/pcmover-for-windows-8/feature-overview
pcmover is not only for cloning but as i stated can also "move" your OS from 1 drive to another. and yes what your thinking is possible you can use this http://www.amazon.com/M-2-NGFF-SSD-SATA-adapter/dp/B00FKCSMYY m.2 to sata adaptor then use the pcmover to "move" the OS.
