DVI vs. HDMI (through a receiver or direct into television)

Wondering what would be the better option of connecting my video card.

I am running a monitor (used for everyday things) with DVI and a flat screen for gaming. At the moment, I have the video feed from the card running direct (mini-HDMI to HDMI) into one of the flat screens HDMI ports and everything seems fine, but would a better option be running the feed via receiver into television, or running a DVI to HDMI feed from card to receiver/television.

The DVI for the television would be through a DVI to HDMI cable and sound through the optical port on my sound card. Which also leads to the difference between using the HDMI cable for both sound/video vs. the DVI to HDMI cable to receiver/television and separate optical cable for sound.

thanks much,

hazel

Solution
For video purposes there is no difference what so ever
For sound purposes optical is still compressed audio, HDMI is uncompressed, thus HDMI to reciever is better for sound.
