Help with linking monitor to GPU

I've recently build my PC and have purchased an LG 22M35 monitor. The problem is the monitor only has a VGA socket and graphics card (AMD Sapphire R9 290) can only support HDMI and DVI-D. I was wondering if anyone could help come up with a solid solution to this problem.

Thanks
James

you might want to go with a DVI-D to VGA connector it is probably the best and cheapest solution

Most graphics cards come with such adapters, did you thoroughly check the box?

on a 22 inch screen you aren't getting the full benefit of your R9 290 either, I would say. If possible, return your monitor and upgrade it

I double checked the box and couldn't find any adapter. I bought a VGA to DVI adapter but made the mistake of not checking whether or not it was DVI-I or DVI-D. Could i also go with a VGA to HDMI?

a VGA to DVI adapter will be DVI-I if I'm not mistaken

I've not seen a VGA to HDMI, I've seen HDMI to DVI-I adapters

The difference is the signal type: VGA is analog, and HDMI/DVI-D are digital, so you need something more complicated than just a plug adapter to convert the signal.

I've seen a kind of adapter VGA to HDMI with a small box where I plug the VGA cable into.

Would that work? Also, i overspent on the PC so i'll probably upgrade my monitor in the future. What sized monitor do u recommend?

from what I've read about those types of adapters, they aren't really intended to work. These are just cables with plugs on them, but they do NOT actually convert the signal as you think they will. I wouldn't recommend buying them.

At the very least return the monitor and find one that has the correct input method. I recommend at least 24 inches, if not 27

i would not recommend that as vga is analog and hdmi is digital wich means it has to be translated from digital to analog wich cost more energy and most important causes more input lag i don't recommend it for gaming but for movies, videos and presentations it's just fine
