Good day!
I have a gtx 770 2gb from Zotac. It's a 5 month old card. Should i sell it now and prepare money for the gtx 980 or wait a little bit more. I'm afraid the value of the 770 might get too low.

PS: Monitor is 1440p

Solution

Yes, 1440p will go over 2GB of resources at high settings. Can probably sell the 770 and pick up a nice cheap 970, which will be good at 1440p for years to come.

1+ Yes but if he have low end case? or he doesn't have sli/crossfire mobo it will make his money go away i mean one new mobo and plus one gpu for like 5-10 fps more it doesn't worth for me if he sells that 770 he will save like 100-150$ more and get 980.But if he have money for spending i would sli the 770 2! Btw you will need at least mid tower case for nice temperatures.

Not to mention the 770 SLI would still top out at "2GB" of VRAM, as SLI doesn't stack the VRAM. I'm sure that will be a bottleneck for 1440p before long, and I'll bet the 970-980 would HAVE to come with at least 4GB. I'd hope?

Yes, the 970 and 980 is going to have 4gb of VRAM. The 970 currently is priced at 350(not confirmed) and have better performance than the 780 if only by a little bit. But price difference is huge.

No it should stack.I mean where is the point then getting 2gb 2x gpu's and they still be 2gb?

Yes, SLI 2gb GPUs is still 2gb VRAM. You will want at least 3GB of VRAM at 1440p and a r9 290 or GTX 780 or higher in order to get decent FPS. Your 770 will act as a good filler at medium settings for now, but you will want to get that 970 or 980 soon (The 970 wiil be about on par with a r9 290/780.

Why would the case matter? I would think the PSU would matter more than the case does. If you have to upgrade your PSU then I would be concerned about upgrading.

It matters if you can't fit 2 GPUs in there, or adequately cool them. In this case, it seems doable if you can remove the lower hard drive cage, and slap a 140mm fan on the side. The PSU is solid in this case.

That said, the mobo doesn't officially support SLI, and not really suited for dual GPUs in the first place. (source: http://us.hardware.info/reviews/4853/gigabyte-g1sniper-b5-review-affordable-gaming-motherboard).

We'll find out the details tomorrow, if the rumors hold true, the 980 is probably a solid choice.

personally i dont think the 980/970 are worth the upgrade if you already have a gtx 770/780 or or 680. i mean the 980 is barely faster than the 780ti so its not exactly a next gen card. if i were you i would stick with the 770 for now(dont worry the price for ur 770 wont go down by mucg till nvidia releases a another product lineup after this one). so i suggest you wait till nvidia announces something good like maybe the 22nm cards which will hopefully be a generation ahead of the current gpus. so think about selling ur card before those type of gpu's are released to get the best bang for your buck

Keep in mind this is for a 1440p display, and the user is going 770 --> 980, not 780Ti --> 980.

I agree if the 770 is getting you good frame rates, at the settings you desire, then hold on to it. GPUs will only get cheaper.

The frame rates are fine until i play Watchdogs, GTA IV, and Starcraft 2. I have to play at medium settings or else i get textures that take like 1-3 seconds to load. It's annoying. Maybe it's the 2gb memory i don't know.

It could be the 2GB at 1440p. Both 900-series cards are 4GB. You can monitor GPU & VRAM usage while the game is up, with a free tool like MSI Afterburner. See what's at 100%.

Well, the reviews are out. Both seem like amazing deals in their price range!
