Copy Backed Up MAC files onto Win 7 Laptop?

I have many photos and some docs backed up from an iMac (OS 10.6) to WD "My Book".
The iMac HD failed, and Apple tell me that it's too old to fix (2006).
When I tried to find the files on My Book using my PC Laptop, some of the folders show but they all appear empty.
How can I get to these precious and (I thought safely) backed up pics?

If the drive was formatted with the Mac and is using the Mac file system you may want to try something like HFSExplorer (free download I think). If I am not mistaken and the drive was formatted with the Mac you may only have read privileges on the drive. Not quite sure why they are not showing up but it could be because it is a file system that is not compatible with Windows.
