I'm building a new PC for first person shooter gaming. A friend helped me piece this together, but before I start buying it I wanted to see if anyone had recommended changes.

He suggested switching out that monitor for this one for first person fps'

[PCPartPicker part list](http://pcpartpicker.com/p/4wWjHx) / [Price breakdown by merchant](http://pcpartpicker.com/p/4wWjHx/by_merchant/)

Type|Item|Price
:----|:----|:----
**CPU** | [Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646i74770k) | $333.99 @ NCIX US
is there a reason you arent going with the newer i7-4790k? keep in mind also that you could save $100 and get by fine with the i5-4690k provided you arent doing any recording as an i5 is perfectly fine for games
**CPU Cooler** | [Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-cpu-cooler-h100i) | $94.99 @ Amazon
your choice but if you are using a full tower case the nzxt coolers have a longer hose which means more mounting locations can be reached
**Motherboard** | [Gigabyte G1.Sniper Z87 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-g1sni...) | $172.13 @ Amazon
is there a reason you arent using z97? personally i'd recommend an asus board.
**Memory** | [G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f314900cl9q1...) | $164.99 @ NCIX US
you dont need 16gb for just gaming. 8gb is fine. if you intend to do some serious high def video editing or complex 3d modeling then maybe. otherwise its a waste of cash
**Storage** | [Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/samsung-internal-hard-driv...) | $129.99 @ Amazon
great drive
**Storage** | [Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/western-digital-internal-h...) | $56.98 @ OutletPC
this works, the black ver has an extra 3 year warranty though
**Video Card** | [EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti 3GB Superclocked Video Card](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-video-card-03gp42883k...) | $699.98 @ SuperBiiz
good choice but i'd use the asus dcu-ii version myself. evga does have good support though
**Case** | [Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced ATX Full Tower Case](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-case-rc932kk...) | $149.99 @ Newegg
your choice
**Power Supply** | [Corsair Professional 850W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-power-supply-cmpsu...) | $139.99 @ Amazon
this is a bit overkill and you could get off quite a bit cheaper but it works.
**Operating System** | [Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/microsoft-os-gfc02050) | $86.98 @ OutletPC
your choice
**Monitor** | [Asus VS247H-P 23.6" Monitor](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-vs247hp) | $147.58 @ Newegg
your choice
| | **Total**
| Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available | $2177.59

in general i see quite a few places you could save quite a bit of cash without hurting your build performance... but what you have would technically work

Good build, a couple of changes:

You can change CPU to 4790k which's similarly priced and has better integrated heatsinks and is newer.
Pair it with Z97 MoBo for upgradibility to Broadwell if ever you want to upgrade.
You can get 1kW G2 which's an excellent quality PSU and enough for SLI 780 Ti's.

Also, the monitor suggested later is a bit better so opt for that. All the best!

Wow thank you for all the info. Cost isn't a huge issue, but I don't like just throwing it away either. All I'm going to be doing is gaming.

DO you have a build you could recommend within pcpartpicker?

if you wanted to overclock but never plan on getting two video cards for sli/cf then something like this would work http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2Jbrpg
please note: you need to add a cpu cooler and monitor to the list. you can also substitute out the case if you like something else. if you prefer a 780ti its about the same cost.

if you wanted to overclock and want sli/cf support then something like this would work http://pcpartpicker.com/p/4nLYf7
please note: you need to add a cpu cooler and monitor to the list. you can also substitute out the case if you like something else. if you prefer a 780ti its about the same cost.

note: the 290x generally performs a bit better but runs hotter and draws more power then the 780ti would. if you want lower temps go with the 780ti. if you want a slight edge in performance go with the 290x. the 780ti will be easier to overclock though due to cooler temps.

as MR noted, you could also just upgrade to a 1kw psu if you wanted to sli in the future. the evga supernovas are good but there are a few other choices as well. an 850w would likely work with 780ti's especially if you have a fairly solid one. xfx units are made by seasonic but 1kw is overkill and if you planned on heavy o/c would be the way to go.

Good builds there by ssddx, I'd like to point out for SLI/CF builds, especially with 290X or 780 Ti, a 1kW PSU would be safer to go with, besides leaving much headroom to minimize any worries about power, strongly in the case of 290X.

@MF

its proven that units such as the seasonic X 850 can handle sli 780ti (not the 290x in cf, and not sure about the xfx850) but i agree that a 1kw unit is the safer option considering that budget is available for it. the supernovas are currently the cheapest 1kw units i'd go with as you already mentioned.

I agree, 850W is fine for 780 Ti SLI. I just mentioned because your SLI/CF build contained 290X whose CF is really Power hungry and I'd strongly advice 1kW for it. Also, there're many other good quality 1kW like SeaSonic X 1050W (excellent PSU) but EVGA generally has cheapest price, so suggested that.

personally i'd just go with the asus dcuii 780ti over the 290x myself. i was going to use the 290x since it normally is a bit cheaper but right now prices are about equal (probably because of the 9xx gpu news).

if you will be streaming frequently (which was an important fact you left out the first time) you may see benefit of the i7-4790k over the i5. otherwise what i said still holds true.

I second ssddx here. Also I'd love to get EVGA SC ACX/ FTW 780 Ti, for a bit higher clocks out of the box. But that's just me, Asus is great aswell.
An i7 makes sense for streaming.
