Hi all,

I'm mulling over the idea of building myself an AMD FX-powered rig for media encoding/consumption and some light gaming. (Having attempted to game on a netbook for the past year-and-a-half I've decided that netbook gaming's a pointless endeavor.) Since pretty much any FX proc will obliterate a dual-core Atom, the FX-4300 looks particularly appealing as it's less than $100 right now.

What I want to know is, will anything "special" happen if the RAM is run at a speed that's syncronized with the NB speed (2 GHz for the 4300)? I'm thinking things like increased performance, more/less stability, things like that. Is there any point in getting RAM that can run at DDR3-2000? What about DDR3-2200 on an FX-83xx?

Thanks in advance!

With a 4300, your best bet will prob be 1600 sticks, it might be able to carry 1866 but don't count on it. Some 83xx can carry 2133, generally limited to 2 sticks

OK, but from a theoretical perspective, would anything interesting happen if I did somehow get my RAM stable at 2000 MT/s?

If I actually build this rig, there's no way I'm not going to try it. :D

Then it would run at 2000 :)  Here we are talking in a 'general' what to expect thing, if you are good at OCing there's no telling what you could do, for most that come to the forums I try and provide realistic scenarios that will fit to most everybody, I've OCed DRAM on many rigs well in excess of standard expectations

Ok, thanks for the help!

Out of curiosity, how is one "good at OCing?"

I'd say someone who has an understanding of what plays into OCing something and has the time and patience to dig in and play with the settings to get the most out of the rig they can while maintaining a safe and stable rig

I definitely have patience (I've used a netbook all this time :)  ), so here's hoping.

Thanks again!
