Hi, I was wondering what size power supply I would need for a setup with a R9 280x and a FX-8350 cpu. The newegg power supply calculator said I would need a 984 watt PSU. The cooler Master Power supply calculator gave me 540 watts. Which size is right? Thanks in advance!

A solid 750w will be perfect in your condition, Gives you some headroom. As being that said I recommend this power supply.

A Radeon R9-280X needs 30 amps on the 12v+ rail and at least a 550 watt power supply with the right PCIE power connections.

Here's that's more than enough.

550w should be good for a stock system, overclocking the cpu - add 100w, overclocked gpu - add 100w is the general rule I use but it really depends on how high an OC you want to squeeze out of them.
