Hello. My current system is a core 2 quad q6600. As you can see I haven't upgraded in quite some time. I'd like to build an i5/i7 gaming rig and was hoping to salvage my old case and power supply. Here is the power supply. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... and here is the case http://www.hardwarelogic.com/articles.php?id=5188 Would there be any issues using these for a current build.

More about : power supply work

the psu would be alright for a lower powered build.
Case can be used but it lacks front usb3 ports which has become fairly common now.

I see no reason why you can't reuse the case and psu.

a 550w psu with two 6 pin connectors can power a graphics card as good as a GTX760ti or a R9-270X.
More efficient graphics cards from nvidia are due to launch soon. Reputedly the GTX980 will run on two 6 pin connectors.

Your case is not really great for cooling, but looks adequate.
I might favor graphics cards with stock blower coolers. They get heat out of your case better.

The usb3.0 issue mentioned above can be easily handled with a front 5 1/2"bay adapter.

its an old psu designed for when gpu's uses the 3.3v line to draw power. This one only has 19a on the 12v rail yet 30 on the 3.3 for example. The other 12v rail is for the cpu usually.

And then we haven't even taken into account the effects aging has had on it...
