I have the following spec:
Fx 6300 black edition, gigabyte ga 970a ds3p, GTX 660 synergy edition, corsair xms3 2x4gb ddr3 ram, corsair vs550w psu, seagate barracuda 1 tb hdd, circle cc820 gaming cabinet. (cpu on stock cooler and no overclock)

My PC was working fine and completely played through Watch Dogs, FarCry3 etc when one day PC started rebooting when iam playing games. Heavier games like Bioshock Infinite, FarCry 3 etc cause the restart whereas the game crashes when playing Portal 2 without pc reboot. Also i am able to play Skyrim Elder Scrolls fine(i think). No hardware or software change. On advice from various thread on this forum i ran stress test both prime95 and furmark simulteneously. Here is my HW Monitor result after 10 minutes of testing.

Hardware Monitors
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hardware monitor ITE IT8728
Voltage 0 1.26 Volts [0x69] (CPU VCORE)
Voltage 1 1.46 Volts [0x7A] (VIN1)
Voltage 2 1.85 Volts [0x9A] (+3.3V)
Voltage 3 3.41 Volts [0xA9] (+5V)
Voltage 4 7.82 Volts [0xA3] (+12V) (is this ok?)
Voltage 5 -4.90 Volts [0x66] (-12V)
Voltage 6 -8.88 Volts [0xB9] (-5V)
Voltage 7 2.76 Volts [0x89] (+5V VCCH)
Voltage 8 1.60 Volts [0x85] (VBAT)
Temperature 0 49°C (120°F) [0x31] (TMPIN0)
Temperature 1 70°C (158°F) [0x46] (TMPIN1)
Temperature 2 59°C (138°F) [0x3B] (TMPIN2)
Fan 0 5233 RPM [0x81] (FANIN0)
Fan 2 1288 RPM [0x20C] (FANIN2)
Fan PWM 0 0 pc [0x0] (FANPWM0)
Fan PWM 1 0 pc [0x0] (FANPWM1)
Fan PWM 2 0 pc [0x0] (FANPWM2)

Hardware monitor NVIDIA NVAPI
Voltage 0 0.95 Volts [0x3B6] (VIN0)
Temperature 0 77°C (170°F) [0x4D] (TMPIN0)
Fan 0 2010 RPM [0x7DA] (FANIN0)
Fan PWM 0 50 pc [0x32] (FANPWMIN0)

Are my voltages and temperatures okay? what could be the problem. I have very unstable voltage and fluctuations in my home and running on an old 600 va generic (Supercomp) UPS. Kindly help.

Solution

If it has warranty on it then yes, if you RMA it takes weeks for them to give you back a new PSU. I would honestly just get a new reliable PSU. Corsair VS series is a bad call.

My PSU is only about 3 months old. thats too bad. Thank you. Just to clarify,
1. can it be any other reason, like insufficient power cord, i am using an old one bcause the cord that comes with psu do not fit my home sockets.
2. Insufficient volt/watt from UPS.
3. any other.
You guys seem pretty sure its the PSU but Before buying a new one i want to be completely sure. Can I return this with this report as proof?

I had an old 450w iball psu and tried it with that and i get the same reading. I have checked the temp on bios they are in the ok range. I.e 12v rail shows 11.6 ish v. Hwmonitor i suppose is wrong. While i agree to your advice that i need new psu, im thinking it may not be my immediate problem. Could it be software, i have unregistered win 8 pro right now. Or any other solution?
