Pentium G3258 help

How well would this CPU perform in a Total war Game (Shogun 2) or other RTS games? I am building a budget PC, which will be my first PC.
What is this i hear about needing a certain Motherboard to overclock this CPU?
Any suggestions of another CPU and motherboard combo that would be less than $200?

I would say it would al least achieve 30 FPS. You need a Z97 board to OC, but some people OCed on H97 boards. I would recommend the Asus Z97-A, which is 140$.

You might just want to stick with the more reliable combo of i3 + cheap motherboard, instead of G3258 + cheap motherboard + cheap cooler.

Well to be fair if he goes the Z97 route he'd have an upgrade path and only be out the cost of the G3258.

A lot of people have been able to get decent speeds on non z series mobos, even h81 mobos: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2389948
You just have to make a bios update.
