Why would you need new ports? if you are not out of ports then you dont need more.

Routers do tend to go bad over time. How old is this router?

I have some routers that work fine for 5+ years and others that I have replaced after 2 years.

What issues does this have? Have you done a hard reset on this?

I don't have luck with my Dlink router. Which model is it? Have you looked to see if you are running the latest firmware? There were a bunch released recently.

I think the newer ones with the external antennas are better. The ones that are a cylinder with the internal antenna are not good. I have an 820L that sits unused because of this.

Is this your router (DLink 615) -- There are MANY revisions of the 615 so yours might not look EXACTLY like that.... Because a Dlink 516 looks like that.

If you sometimes have to unplug it, what do the lights on the front look like when you go to unplug it? Is the power light on? Is the symbol for the internet (world or triangle shaped thing) on? Is the internet light blinking?

OK... so just WIRELESS than isn't working when you have to unplug it. It may be that the radio is overheating, or it might be a problem with your client (laptop, tablet, etc). When this happens do ALL wireless devices loose connection? Do you have a phone or something that you can test that with?

We can help with that...

A few questions required first.....

How many wireless devices do you need to have connected at once (laptops, tablets. phones, game consoles, etc)?

How many (if any) wired devices do you need to have connected at once?

What is the speed of your internet connection (something like 15/5 -- 15Mbit download, 5Mbit upload)?

What is your modem model (device plugged into the input of the router)?

I don't know what country you are in, but if this available it is a bargain, based on this review. The top rated router from SmallNetBuilder is this one. Either of those should work.
