Let me see if i can explain this. If i am using just the driver for the card itself, nothing else i have absolutely zero issues. However if i install the catalyst thingymajigger, the UI where you can change things like the brightness and whatnot, i have constant issues with freezes. Have done complete driver sweeps and the whole 9, even factory renewing using cd. I finally got the card stable and all on a previous thread but i am stuck with no UI to get the settings, brightness, resolution i like. Is there anything else out there i can use besides the AMD catalyst for options? Or maybe why it is buggy?

AMD FX-4100 OC

Geeze. That bad now. A whole grip of early 280x cards had mysterious artifacting, black screen and failure problems. Gigabyte, Asus, Sapphire, XFX, etc., I've read a lot of unsolved mysteries and, it's not just the AMD drivers. Course, if I've read about so many problems, I just might be interested in buying one, which I am. But using just the display settings takes the cake. It's humbling that a solution has ultimately come down to the desk top.

ok guess i will have to fiddle around with the monitor for now till the issue is resolved. Bit of a ah heck not having total customization settings but not too terribly bad, could be worse i suppose. Wanted to check out higher resolution, but the standard native support only goes up to 1280x1024 whereas on the control center i could of got a good bit higher. Ah well no biggies like i said and probably shouldnt push it too much till i get the psu replaced anyway. That bad rail has me on edge thinking fire lol

It's always a good idea to fix power first. Due to a faulty psu, I had to replace a motherboard and video card. The physical (scary) thing that happens when voltages drop is brown out. Since electricity can't make a clean connection, it arcs across circuits leaving little burn patches between the jump. When the burns get bigger, it starts to flicker and allowed, the computer dies. It happens all the time to all sorts of stuff. The clock radio accidentally gets knocked to the floor and the circuit board inside gets cracked, still plays but suddenly stops and needs a mysterious smack on it to turn it back on. Smacking it cleans the burn in the crack so it plays again. eventually the crack grows wider and the clock ceases to play. There are some psu units that have circuit (breaker) switches inside them. If I can recall, I think SeaSonic G and XFX TFX units do. But you'll need to check my word. One of the best things you can own for your system and I will recommend buying is a uninterrupted power supply unit (UPS). It cleans up dirty power better than any power strip can do and saves your computer from power spikes and power brown outs.
