MB or GPU problem

Last night going to bed unplugging my second monitor and my lap a spark happened my main monitor/tv went blank.restarted PC and still blank screen but on restart my GPU fan Ramps Loud no SIgnal,and PC makes one loud beep

everything boots up normally but GPU after 30 seconds one long beep

Specs are:
4GB Ram
INtel Core 2 Qaud q6600
intel motherboard
PC Name: HP DC7800 Convertable tower

Could it have been an ESD spark? Static electricity can be in the thousands of volts and fry delicate electronics.

If you have onboard video ( VGA ports on your motherboard) can you plug your monitor into this and see if it boots correctly.

Otherwise you will need to borrow a GPU from someone if you do not have a spare to test with. I am guessing that it would be the GPU, but it might be more that just that. Test it before you replace it if you can.

ok im going to try this when i get back home the wierd thing is there no burn point or anything on the chip im just wondering now how it affected the HDMI port through cord.

i think it may have been,like i was unplugging my second monitor from wall socket,same goes for my lamp,there was a spark between the 2,

The second monitor and lamp still work when i this happened i found out that My Monitor/TV the HDMI Ports dont work ether. but cable and/VGA/RGB are fine

Oh, I misunderstood you. When you said "...unplugging my second monitor and my lap a spark happened...", I assumed you meant your monitor you had connected to your laptop. What a difference leaving one letter out makes.
