I know I may not answer the question you asked. But why upgrade to the 700 series, wait for the new 900 series released in a day or two I believe.

It will be a 32% increase in performance from the 760 to a 780. It will be 49% from a 760 to a 780Ti.
I would take something like a 290, delivers 780 levels of performance at a 770 pricepoint.

All of this is as of right now. You should wait for the 9xx series to launch.

A $300 GTX 970 will be faster than a GTX 780, revealed in just one more day. And to answer your question, going from a mid-range graphics card to a high-end graphics card, if you can afford it, can make a bit of a difference. Sometimes it can make all the difference between full highest ultra settings and reduced settings. This should be a good week to hold off and see what the new Maxwell GTX 970/980 have to offer.
