So I want to build my first desktop, and these are the components I have in mind.

i7 4790k
Asus GTX 770 2gb
16GB (2x8) (should i get 4x4 instead?)
Asus Maximus vii hero
256GB SSD
500GB HDD
DVD-RW
Antex 900 case

Should I get a water cooler for the cpu?
I've read that the 4790k runs cool compared to others and that an air cooler is enough.
I don't plan to overclock, maybe in a couple years.

I've been looking at different PSU calculators and they all recommend a different amount, so I wanted to ask the ones with experience what is the best option for me?
One PSU calculator gives me a recommended 500 while another says 800.
I know they aren't that accurate but that's just too much of a difference.

I was thinking that in time I would get another 770 for SLI.
Or is it better to just get a single better gpu?

Am I on the right track?

As for the SLI. Getting a better card is always better. So instead of getting another GTX 770, get a GTX 780 or 780 ti. Once you have those cards, that's when you SLI. I would say a minimum of 700 watts on the PSU. I would recommend going overkill and getting a 1000 watt PSU just to be safe if in the future you end up having 2 ways GTX 780 ti's.

600 TO 650 watts is what is recommended fora single 770, if you get two, something in the 850w area is reccomended. A better singlegpu is 99% of the time the better choice over multi gpu setups. Multi gpu setups may not scale well with some games, while single gpus dont suffer this problem. A single 780 ti is a liitle less in performance than 2 770s but is much cheaper. Go with a single gpu setup. Also go with 2*8 sticks since it will allow for future upgrades, 4 sticks will only give minor performance boosts and are mostly valid in synthetic benchmarks.

Thanks for the help, I had a an idea and now my doubts are cleared.
I'll be getting a corsair 850w psu since its the same price as the same model 750w on newegg.
