I tried starting it the other day and nothing, no clicks no fans no lights.
So cover off, green light on mobo check.
So following advice off other posts (im not a computer tech but not a numpty ;-/ and can follow advice.)
Test PSU with paper clip,
And rear fan on, CD Drive on, HD on.
Tested PSU with multimeter and all pins checked out ok ( well within range, I think :-/ ie. Pin 14- 11.35v instead of 12v)
Was really hoping it was the PSU.
I've bought a mobo speaker and plugged that in but cannot get any beeps.
Tried removing/switching ram.
Not shure what to do next, any help please.

I wouldn't recommend either of those. Take a look at the PSU list http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1804779/power-supply-unit-tier-list.html . I wouldn't go lower than Tier 3. The HEC and Powercool are both Tier 5 (replace immediately).

At Maplin, the XFX Pro 550W looks like the lowest-priced good-quality PSU at the moment: http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/xfx-pro-series-550w-power-supply-unit-core-edition-r75dd . Shop around for better sale prices and/or lower shipping, but keep quality in mind. A poorly-regulated unit that glitches occasionally and crashes the machine for no apparent reason or one with inadequate overvoltage protection that fails and fries all the components it's connected to (which is everything) just isn't worth saving a few quid...

Well first sorry for not replying earlier but norsestar it seems you was right with replacing the psu. Everything went sweet and my computer is up and running.
Also thanks for your recommendation, it does seem a quality purchase.
However (sorry to throw another problem your way)
I had and still have a shutdown problem, which might have been a reason why the old psu went pop.
Sometimes but not everytime the computer refuses to shut down, hangs for 10 minutes, then bluescreens and restarts then allows me to shut down.

The bluescreen message reads
DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE
***STOP: 0x0000009F (0x00000003, 0x888A33C0, 0x8892D348, 0xD9B34B28)

I'm glad the PSU fixed the power-on problem. The XFX should treat you well.

I don't think the bluescreens are related to the PSU, especially if they were occurring before you got the new one. A quick google of "stop 9f" suggests a driver problem (as does the "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE" message). Does it list a driver name when it fails? It sounds like a driver update and/or changing power settings in the driver solve it for some people but you'll have to guess which if it doesn't tell you. Do you sleep or hibernate the system? What OS are you running?
