I have a jetdirect ex plus driving a Laserjet 1100 on my network, using win7. The printer & server are normally powered off, except when i need to print.
Every so often the print gets "lost", and I found that the tail of the IP address had changed from 64 to 65 or 66 - after some hair pulling. I then go in to the printers on the computer to change the address here, which cures it, but WHY is this happening - I wondered if it is the order I switch on the printer & server, but can't reproduce the error.
ANY ideas as to what is going on would be welcome!

Is the IP set manually, or is is set to DHCP?

The IP is setup by the print server default- as is the lan cable (vs coax link) -

The IP(in the print server-jet direct) is either set to pick up an IP from the DHCP server - in which case it may change, or it is specifically set. I don't know what the default is, but I would guess that the default is DHCP so it would talk to the network. There is some Jetdirect admin software that will allow you to set the IP to whatever IP you want. You could also set up an IP reservation in the router so it always picks up the same IP from DHCP.

I used telnet to go into the server - and DHCP was on!
Have switched it off, and now hope all will be stable
Once again thanks for the help - I had assumed the ip adress set by default would be fixed
