I'm trying to decide between red / green or purple for a simple home DVR Camera setup using a D-Link (DNR-322L) SecureCenter 2-Bay Cloud Network Video Recorder with only 5x camera's. Any suggestions ??
Yes, I've been reading for hours about the advantages of NAS drives over Surveillance drives in smaller NON-Raid type DVR applications.
Appears many users are choosing the red over purple for movement triggered applications where read/write and idle to write speed is a factor, as opposed to large capacity (32 camera's recording simultaneously) requires different parameters.
Any advice would be great
If you are that concerned about instantaneous response go for the WD Red Pro version. They are constant 7200 RPM drives where as both the Red and Purples are "Intellipower" (variable RPM) drives.
A 4TB Red Pro drive is about $60 more than the 4TB Red drive on Newegg.
That would seem be the obvious choice.. why would you not go for that?
Cheers
Either WD Red or WD Purple. The Reds are NAS "rated" and the Purples are DVR rated. The function is basically the same. See if you can find a good deal on either one.

My response above is relevant. WD Red and WD Purple are very similar, spec wise. See if you can find a deal on either. Also double check which drives are recommended by DLINK for that device. They may have validated choices which they have tested for compatibility.
