Looking at going 4k or 1440p.

Its between a Benq bl3200pt or a Samsung u28d590d.

A 4k at 28" you may not see any benefit over a 27" 1440p monitor. I use a 27" 1440p and I would have to be right up on the screen to see the pixels so other than losing performance in games I don't think there will be much difference (no personal experience with a 4k just fyi). I haven't seen a 1440p at 32" so I don't know if the pixel density is still good enough to where they are unnoticeable.

If it was me, I would be comparing a 27" 1440p vs a 32" 4k, I think that makes more sense when it comes to appropriate pixel densities. You have the horse power to drive 4k but at 28" I just don't know if it's worth it.

See now I'm torn. Part of me wonders if I should wait for Freesync.

there is no big diffrence between a 28 and 32, just get the 4k you'll never regret it

I use both a 28" 4k monitor and a 27" 1440p PLS monitor.

I can tell you Gaming on 4k is the winner, but the hardware required is much more. Your graphics setup will cope very well, and is my considered path also. I'd vote straight to 4k.

NOTE: Same games scale the res from 1080p (x4) to fit to 2160p.

So I am curious, is the extra pixel density really that noticeable on the 4k? I haven't seen one in person so it's nice to hear from an owner. Or do you think that the 4k monitor you have is just a better quality picture/color and the pixels aren't the factor?

That's a very good question. Depending on the game the difference is noticeable. Once 4k becomes more accepted gams will optimise it' resolution better. With the better picture, the added pixels make that happen. Colour, similar to same but I have calibrated my display for my optimum settings.
