so basically every so often when my computer (ASUS X202E) is unplugged is unplugged, my hard drive will make an odd ticking sound and after roughly 20 seconds will freeze. After this happens I always have to manually restart my computer. This is very obnoxious, and if anyone can find the problem and/or a solution I would be so thankful.

More than likely a failing HDD. That ticking you are hearing is more often that not a sign of a failing HDD, backup your data immediately and replace it.

It is a failing HDD. The ticking is when the disk fails to spin but the arms are still searching for data (most of the time)

Backup what you can, if you can.

Now would be a good time to look into SSD, if you want to upgrade and keep this laptop.

It only happens when my computer is not plugged in, is there a reason for this?
