Is the I7 5960x good for gaming

Solution
Its a fine OCer and BEAST CPU, but a total waste of money for gaming, an i5 4690k will provide equal or even better results thanks to great stock clock (on OCing too), i7 if you're on a high budget, 5930k if you're on insane budget, but not this 8 core. Won't be anywhere near ideal.

Simple answer yes it's good, but upgrading to this is not easy. In order to use the new CPU's you have to also have a motherboard with 2011-v3 which in the end not that big a deal seeing as eventually everyone will be upgrading. The nut kicker in this is with both those already around $800+ you also need new DDR4 ram to even run the new CPU which at the moment are all $300+. Just keep these in mind when you are looking to upgrade your system. My advice would be to go for a better GPU because its a easier step and can even have a better impovment then all those combined. This all depends on your current build and what your budget looks like though. Hope this helped.

I was gonna get the 5960x too but it's kind of an overkill for gaming plus you have to get a 2011-3 motherboard and DDr4 ram so you will end up spending about 2k on those three things. So I went with a 4790k and Asus hero VII board for about $600 and its a great gaming set up. Good luck

For gaming, is a waste of money.

You'll be better with the i5-4590K, it can manage the GTX 780 Ti or R9 290X with no problems.

And you'll need new motherboard and DDR4 modules, and the gaming benchmarks didn't show any significant improvements vs the normal Haswell CPUs.
