Display has stopped & recover

I recently got a r9 280x sapphire dual-x on ebay. I have a FX-8370,xfx 550w bronze 80+ PSu, 970A-D3 rev 3 mobo, 16 gb (8x2)ram corsair vengeance. I have the latest bios and drivers, but when I go to play a game like skyrim or do a burn in test on kombuster I get either get "display drivers have stopped and successfully recovered" or get was blocked from accessing I think the hardware.

I bought the video card from a litecoin miner, could there be some settings in the video card where its is optimized for mining but not gaming?

Played Battle Front 2 no problems, Banished no problems,
Star Trek Online I get

Used that Display driver uninstaller in safe mode and reinstalled the drivers. It worked. A few games, skyrim and war thunder gave me the application blocked from accessing graphics hardware error. I uninstalled Skyrim via steam and got a refresh download instead of installing from a backup. After the fresh install skyrim works on ultra high. I have not reinstalled war thunder yet.
