Hey, I was wondering if I should upgrade to a GTX 970 when they are fully released? I know the price is meant to be around 300 euro, the reference card with the sexy backplate looks awesome. My 7950 is outdated now so I think it's time to upgrade. I was going to upgrade to a R9 290 but decided to hold out because it didn't really offer anything besides better FPS.

Let me know what you guys think.

Depending on the performance of the 970, it may not be as big an upgrade as you think. Advancement in GPU performance is starting to slow down as we hit the point where more shaders don't magically increase performance drastically. If you look at the GPU Hierarchy, the 770 is only one tier up from the 7950, and expected performance on the 970 is no more than 15% better over the 770.

Then if it's that performance then it will be about 30% faster than a 7950. It has a good overclocking headroom as well. One of the main reasons why I like it is because of the power usage as well.

The early estimates are that the 970 will perform as well or better than a gtx 780 possibly to around 780ti performance with a good overclock. That's significantly faster than a 7950, more in the range of 30% or better.

Official numbers aren't yet out, however, if the performance figures are correct, the gtx 970 for under 400 will be a very good card. Here's hoping for a cheap Nvidia release. Don't get your hopes up, but you never know

I've never had an Nvidia card before, I've always liked AMD but I'm willing to shell out 300-350 for a reference 970 if the performance and temperatures are good. I hope they don't let me down, because Nvidia cards are overpriced compared to AMD cards here.

The power draw on the cards are supposed to be lower compared to last gen cards in the same overall performance area. 2 6 pin power for gtx 780 performance or better is pretty dang good, especially considering they are still using 28nm process

Wait for the GTX 970, it may be a good upgrade if the preliminary benchmarks happen to be true.
