Hey guys,
I'm trying to revive an old Dell D610 laptop and after installing the new CPU, a Celeron M, it wouldn't boot. I only get lights and a faint squeak from the CPU, also the hard drive and fan won't spin. Please help.

obviously the cpu is not squeaking, maybe the fans are. Did u connect the cpu correctly and maybe the motherboards dead. The cpu may also be incompatible.

The laptop turns on for a few seconds, then shuts down. Tried everything, took the battery out, held the power button down for 30 then 60 secs, but the screen remains black. Even with one stick of ram it still did this. The CPU was pulled from a working laptop and is compatible with the Dell D610. The system only takes Pentium M or Celeron M CPU's. I don't know what's causing the problem.

Is it a CPU that is supported by the laptop's current BIOS version? (Just because the socket and CPU are compatible doesn't entail that the CPU will work if the firmware doesn't support it.)

If the answer is yes, then you may have a faulty board or a faulty display adapter (video chip). Unless I'm mistaken, this system has ATI graphics. That ATI chip could be at fault.
