Hello everyone,

I have this annoying problem that I can't solve myself.

I have a custom pc which is connected by a LAN cable. Every half an hour (or so) my internet decides to shut down for like 5 to 15 seconds and immediately reconnects.

I don't know what causes these disconnects and I hope that someone knows how to deal with this problem.

Thank you!

Jesse

Solution
First try downloading the newest lan driver for your motherboard, uninstall the old driver and then install the new one.

If that does not work then you can try going into your adapter settings and manually selecting the speed and duplex (100mbps or 1000mbps depending on you network, and full duplex)

If that still does not work then it is most likley a hardware problem. You can test a laptop or another computer with that cable/router port, test a different cable, test a different port on the router. If every test using your computer has the disconnect problem then the issue is the network card on your motherbaord. I am assuming this is for a desktop, you can buy a pci-e lan card so that you dont have to replace your entire motherboard.

Did not even think of some bad setting in the router, its something that would have had to been user set as that is not a default setting at all, but would completley explain the situation.

Jesse, does any other computers on your network suffer from this disconnect?

That is why multiple people answer. We all think a little differently... You covered the basic hardware on the host, so I went for the less likely. I agree when you "Hear hoof beats, think horse not zebra...." BUT every once in a while a zebra gets loose from the zoo :)
