I'm looking for a laptop or a tablet that I can easily read technical/programming books on without major eye strain or need to zoom in and out constantly. I'd also like to do some programming on said device, which is why I'm not sure whether I should be getting a laptop or a tablet. I'm partial toward a tablet because I enjoy the feeling of holding a book and reading rather than staring at a laptop, but unsure about whether or not there are any tablets out there that would be suitable to program on, which is why a laptop is also in the mix.

Does anyone have any recommendations for either a laptop or a tablet? Would an ultrabook be better suited for what I need? My price range is around $450 max, but I'd entertain some slightly pricier options too.

Ultrabooks are going to be closer to $1000 than $500. Being in IT i prefer a laptop with the numeric keypad but that is me.

I would get a 2 in one like the asus t100. It may be a small screen but you should be able to plug it into other monitors.

If your programming in Windows get a Windows tablet. The surface would be nice for you but out of your price range.
