Hey all,

I'm in the process of building a PC over the next month or so, and I just realized a problem that I'm not sure how to solve. I have already purchased things like my case, power supply, fans, etc. but not the motherboard, processor, video card, or any of the "important" pieces.

I just realized that the motherboard I plan on purchasing has a 2x2 4-pin power connector and a 2x4 8-pin power connector. I read that this is what powers the processor so it depends on how much power the processor needs to dictate what you need to plug into it. Basically, my power supply only has two 2x2 4-pin connectors so I'm worried that I will have to get some kind of adapter from molex to 2x2 or maybe a 2x8? Can I plug in two 2x2 4-pins into a 2x8 slot? Do I even need them all plugged in?

My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SOC.
My power supply is AZZA Platinum 750-Watt 80+ Platinum Power Supply (PSAZ-750PT14).
My processor is Intel Core i7-4790K Processor.

First time builder so I'm pretty new to everything. I've been teaching myself as I go but I'm afraid I may have gone too far this time and I'm not sure how to fix it, if it even needs to be fixed. Help please! :) Thanks in advance!

i dont know if you solved it but the molex to 8 pin is for a graphics card, you have two cpu power cables on that board. Unless you are overclocking heavily you only need to plug in the 8 pin power, not both the 8 pin and 4 pin. There will be a cable that has two 4 pins that go together to form one 8 pin

If you look closely at your two 2x2 4 pin connectors you may find they fit together to form a 2x4 8 pin connector. PSU makers do this to may the cable more flexible for different applications. The mother board may only need one or the other. Check the manual online. Also a molex to 4 or 8 pin will work as well.

Well, it doesn't look like they go together. I'll look into the molex to 8-pin. I live in Alaska so I'm not sure I'll be able to find one locally. Any suggestions for online? So, it could be that it needs either the 2x2 OR the 2x4, not necessarily both or them?
