For better recommendations, you should also include your budget and list any special uses/requirements you might have.

Sony is no longer making their VIAO serries as they were not making money.
I never cared for sony anyways, to me it was always overpriced for what you get.

Here is my rundown on laptops. I have a small business providing outsoureced IT for other small businesses so my opinions are bassed on what I get in for repairs and the build quality I see in them.

Lenovo - This is my first choice, I give them 4-5 stars in price, quality and support

ASUS - Second Choice, Good in price and quality, their support is not as good

Samsung - Good Computer but a little more expensive

HP - Hit or Miss, You can get a great deal or a laptop pleagued with failures and it happens in the budget lines and the premium/business lines, due to it being such an unknown variable I just stay away

Sony - Decent but not superb qualtiy but for a premium price that gets you nothing over any other computer brand

Dell - used to be my go to company in the Mid/Late 2000s. Quality has dropped a good bit since then, support is well sterotyped, business grade is ok but for the money I would suggest something higher up in the list.

Toshiba - Used to be really good quality in Mid/Late 2000s. Their quality has declined and so I would not recommend for a business laptop.

Gateway - stay far far away, horrible build quality, horrible support

Acer - Purchased by gateway a few years back, in between gateway and dell in quality.

Actually Acer purchased Gateway and they continue to remain as separate brands. Sort of like when HP bought Compaq.

My company has been using HP's since 2001. We did a forklift program where we replaced 1500 computers. We had multiple vendors but in a RFP for doing the job. We didn't evaluate the hardware we only looked at the vendors. A vendor was selected and they used HP/Compaq products (we had Dell previously). Now we've grown to 2500 pc and are replacing all PC's older then 2010 with more HP's.

As far as buying 1 PC laptop magazine has Lenovo the highest quality for laptops.
