Computer shuts down after 2 seconds

Hey there,

I built my own computer 4 months ago. Everything worked perfectly until yesterday. I turned it on and then it turned off after 2 seconds by itself. No motherboard bip could be heard but it did a weird ''BRRRR'' sound. Also, the bios and starting screen doesnt show. The fans and some lights seems to start and then, all shuts down.

To make things easier, I recorded a movie to show the problem (I zipped it so it doesnt play in the browser and lag):

Here are my computer parts:

Any idea on what I should do first?

Thanks in advance

No probs . If I plug something into this case like a hard drive, (because the connections are in one of the 5 1/4 bays), it hangs down next to the CPU / CPU fan. And if I forget to put the cables back in the bay, it can hit the CPU fan.

I'll also hear this sound you're hearing.

But the cables from the PSU in the case here are above the CPU fan as well. So I had to tie them to part of the case so they wouldnt drop

Ok so, I wasn't able to find the problem yet. Here are the tests I did:

- I opened my computer and checked to see if some wires were in the way of the fans. Everything was clear and nothing was in the way;
- I unplugged the videocard and the SSD+HDD;
- I turned on the PSU and tried to boot again. It powered on for 1 sec and then powered off like before. No more ''BRRR'' sound though. No sound or beep at all in fact (only one red light turned on on the mobo witch is the sound boost chip);
- Then, I unplugged the PSU from my old computer and plugged it in this one. Exact same problem... Turned on and then off.

I repacked everything like before and now I'm not quite sure whats the next step. Could my MOBO be dead?

Thanks,

Here is an update in case someone runs into the same issue.

- I have reset the CMOS;
- No more reboot! but BIOS still didnt show (black screen);
- I had a stick in dimm 02 and another one in dimm 04. I removed the one in DIMM 04 and the computer booted successfully.

So, i guess there is 2 possible issues. My 2nd stick is dead OR some slots are dead on my MOBO. I will test tomorrow.

Hey friend do not worry about it. You should try different PSU. It may be occurring with the PSU's short circuit protection which is shutting it down after 2 second. New PSU will degrade over time and yours may have been marginal from the start. Try it once I hope you will satisfy and will not face this issue again. Thanks..

hey guys,

@accuratecomputer:
I already tried another PSU and I got the same issue. It kept rebooting.

@Paul NZ:
I used to have a stick in slot 2 and another one in slot 4. Yesterday, I removed the one in slot 4 and my computer booted into windows. Althought, this morning, the computer froze in windows and I had to reboot it.

Right now, the computer doesn't reboot by himself like my previous issue but DOS doesn't show on the screen (can't access DOS and windows). Only a black screen. I'm getting confused now.

So, to sum up, right now my computer doesn't restart by himself but doesn't get into the BIOS (black screen). I only have the PSU, MB and 1 stick of ram in slot 2 connected.

The only part I didn't verify yet is the CPU. I wanted to avoid this part since I got a cooler master on top of it and need to remove the board I guess.

If you have got 2 sticks they should be in the right slots. Read the manual. If theyre not in the right slots it wont boot

If you had to remove the one in slot 4 it maybe faulty. Or its in the wrong slot. Normally if you have 2 sticks they should go in slot 1 and 2 not 2 and 4

Hey,

In my MB manual, it says that dimm 2 and dimm 4 are the one to use if I only have 2 sticks. But good news, I think I finally found the problem. After testing my ram sticks, I realized that one of them is dead. If I use the other one only, everything works. So, the problem was more simple than I thought..
